Invisible walls seem to separate this neighborhood from the surrounding tourist traps, enclosing its artistic and bohemian population. In Monti, the broke intelligentsia debate politics in smoky settings, vintage clothes come from London rather than Milan, and long-established artisans practice their crafts on the streets. Monti is the underground Rome, hidden in plain sight.
